If you are a citizen of the United States, then today, May 1st, is Loyalty Day. Loyalty Day is a special day for the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States and for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom.
On this day, United States government buildings will display the flag of the United States. On this day, the citizens of the United States are asked to observe appropriate ceremonies in schools and other suitable places.
Perhaps you will display your own flag. You may affix your flag to your window, as is now customary. If your flag is equipped with a flagpole, you may fly your flag over your front porch, your carport, or your mailbox. Perhaps you will discuss the day’s significance with friends, parents, teachers, clergy, or co-workers, as I may do today when I share a 15-minute break with our Pinkerton security guard. Perhaps you might write a letter to your local newspaper, discussing the day and its meaning to you. Perhaps you will think of fallen heroes. Perhaps you might choose to wear red, white, or blue.
